PM Modi visits Bhutan for King's 70th birthday and Peace Festival.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu, on Tuesday for a two-day state visit. He was warmly received at the airport by Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay. During his stay from November 11 to 12, PM Modi will attend official programs, the Global Peace Prayer Festival organized by the Royal Government of Bhutan, and celebrations marking the 70th birthday of the Fourth King.

In a post on X, PM Modi expressed gratitude for the “warm and gracious welcome,” highlighting the deep friendship and cooperation between India and Bhutan. He noted that the visit aims to further strengthen their time-tested partnership rooted in trust and mutual respect. Before leaving New Delhi, PM Modi said it was an honour to join the people of Bhutan in celebrating the Fourth King’s birthday. He also mentioned the inauguration of the Punatsangchhu-II hydropower project, calling it a milestone in the India-Bhutan energy partnership. PM Modi noted that the exposition of the Sacred Piprahwa Relics of Lord Buddha at the Global Peace Prayer Festival symbolizes the spiritual and cultural ties between the two nations.

During the visit, PM Modi will hold meetings with the King of Bhutan, the Fourth King, and Prime Minister Tobgay. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the trip will strengthen bilateral ties and provide an opportunity to discuss regional and global issues of shared interest. India’s Ambassador to Bhutan, Sandeep Arya, described the visit as highly significant, coinciding with important national and spiritual events and reflecting the closest partnership between the two countries.
