Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss the evolving security situation in West Asia, reaffirming India’s commitment to peace, regional stability, and diplomatic engagement. The discussion comes at a time when the region continues to face uncertainty despite recent efforts to reduce tensions between Iran and the United States. 

During the conversation, President Pezeshkian briefed Prime Minister Modi on the latest developments in the region and shared Iran’s perspective on the current situation. In response, the Indian Prime Minister welcomed the recent diplomatic progress and expressed hope that continued negotiations would help create a lasting and sustainable peace across West Asia. 

India also reiterated its long-standing position that international disputes should be resolved through dialogue rather than conflict. PM Modi emphasized that diplomacy remains the most effective path toward reducing tensions and ensuring long-term regional stability. This approach reflects New Delhi’s consistent foreign policy of encouraging peaceful negotiations while maintaining constructive relations with all major stakeholders in the region. 

A significant part of the discussion focused on the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation and international trade routes, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz. The strategic waterway is one of the world's busiest energy corridors and is crucial for global oil and gas shipments. For India, which imports a substantial portion of its energy requirements from West Asia, uninterrupted maritime trade is essential for energy security, economic stability, and supply chain resilience. 

The leaders’ conversation also highlights India’s growing diplomatic engagement in West Asia at a time when geopolitical developments continue to influence global markets, energy prices, and international commerce. By maintaining communication with regional leaders and advocating peaceful dialogue, India seeks to play a balanced and constructive role while protecting its strategic and economic interests. 

Experts believe that India’s emphasis on diplomacy and stability is particularly important given its expanding trade partnerships, energy dependence, and the presence of millions of Indian citizens living and working across the Gulf region. Stability in West Asia directly impacts not only global energy markets but also shipping costs, investment flows, and regional economic growth, making peace in the region a matter of significant national interest for India. 

The phone call reflects the continued dialogue between New Delhi and Tehran amid changing geopolitical circumstances. As diplomatic efforts continue in the region, India has reaffirmed that lasting peace can only be achieved through cooperation, dialogue, and respect for international norms.
