PARAKH Recommends Classroom-Based Measures to Bridge Learning Gaps Identified in 2024 Survey

PARAKH has proposed targeted classroom interventions to address learning gaps identified in the 2024 national school survey, with a focus on improving teaching methods, strengthening foundational skills and monitoring students’ progress through regular assessments. The recommendations aim to help schools use assessment findings to identify areas where students need additional support and introduce suitable teaching strategies. The approach emphasises practical classroom activities, remedial teaching and regular evaluations to improve learning outcomes.
The PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan 2024 was conducted on December 4, 2024, covering students in Classes 3, 6 and 9 across states and Union Territories. The assessment examined students’ learning competencies and highlighted challenges in maintaining academic performance as children progress through different stages of schooling.
Under the proposed framework, district-level education authorities would review survey findings, identify priority learning areas and work with schools to develop intervention plans. Monthly assessments would help teachers evaluate whether the measures are improving students’ understanding and determine where further support is required.
The recommendations also call for teaching methods suited to different age groups. At the foundational stage, schools are encouraged to strengthen early literacy and numeracy through play-based activities, storytelling and hands-on learning. Students in higher classes would receive greater emphasis on reading comprehension, mathematical reasoning, analytical writing and problem-solving.
PARAKH has also highlighted the importance of coordination among district education officials, teacher training institutions and school authorities. Proposed support measures include an intervention handbook, question banks and digital learning resources to help teachers implement the recommendations. The initiative seeks to make assessments more useful for everyday teaching by connecting survey findings with classroom practices. Instead of relying only on examination scores, teachers would be encouraged to identify specific learning difficulties and provide focused assistance to students.
Effective implementation will depend on teacher training, access to learning materials and regular monitoring. The proposed measures are intended to help schools address academic weaknesses at an early stage and ensure students develop the skills needed to progress confidently through the education system.
