The National Democratic Party (NDP) has accused Pakistan’s security forces of suppressing dissent in Balochistan following the unexplained disappearance of senior party activist Ghani Baloch, who has been missing for six months. According to The Balochistan Post, the party said his abduction is a direct attack on constitutional rights and democratic freedoms.

As reported, Ghani Baloch was picked up on May 25 while travelling from Khuzdar to Karachi in a private passenger coach. The NDP claims that the Frontier Corps stopped the vehicle near Khuzdar and took him away by force. Since then, authorities have released no information about his arrest, place of detention, or current condition, prompting serious concerns for his well-being.

In its statement, the NDP denounced the incident as a “clear violation of basic human rights” and evidence of the state’s intolerance toward peaceful political activity in the region. The party stressed that if there were any charges against Ghani Baloch, he should have been presented before a court instead of being held without communication. It added that the prolonged uncertainty has caused severe emotional and psychological suffering for his family and fellow activists.

The NDP spokesperson further accused Pakistani state institutions of using enforced disappearances and restrictions on political gatherings to silence opposition in Balochistan. These unlawful measures, they said, fall outside constitutional limits, erode democratic principles, and cannot shield those responsible from accountability. The party also revealed that several other leaders—Sana Baloch Khetran, Zahid Baloch, and Mir Baloch—are missing under similar conditions, describing the disappearances as politically motivated attempts to weaken legitimate political movements, as highlighted by The Balochistan Post.

To mark six months since Ghani Baloch went missing, the NDP has announced an online campaign and a webinar scheduled for November 26. The party reaffirmed its commitment to fighting for democratic and national rights and vowed not to stay silent in the face of state repression, according to The Balochistan Post.
