Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said the Indian Air Force is a technologically advanced, agile and future-ready force that continues to protect national interests in a rapidly changing global environment. Addressing the Air Force Commanders’ Conclave in New Delhi, he said Operation Sindoor highlighted India’s ability to carry out swift, high-impact military operations.

Singh praised the IAF for the speed, precision and courage shown in destroying terror camps during the operation, as well as for effectively countering Pakistan’s response. He noted that the calm reaction of citizens during attempted attacks on Indian installations reflected the country’s strong trust in the Armed Forces, particularly the air defence system.

Emphasising the need to understand an adversary’s capabilities, he urged commanders to draw lessons from Operation Sindoor and remain prepared for future challenges. Citing recent conflicts such as the Russia-Ukraine war, the Israel-Hamas conflict, the Balakot air strikes and Operation Sindoor, Singh said air power has emerged as a decisive strategic instrument, defined by speed, surprise and shock.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening national security, highlighting the growing role of cyber warfare, artificial intelligence, drones, space-based assets and real-time intelligence in modern conflicts. Singh also expressed confidence in initiatives like the Sudarshan Chakra, indigenous jet engine development, and increased collaboration with the private sector through programmes such as iDEX and ADITI.

Calling Operation Sindoor a strong example of tri-service synergy, he stressed the importance of jointness among the Armed Forces. He also lauded the IAF’s humanitarian and disaster relief efforts in India and abroad. The conclave, attended by senior defence leadership, focused on operational readiness, emerging challenges and advancing self-reliance in defence capabilities.
