Omar Abdullah on Monday announced ex-gratia relief for victims of the tragic Udhampur road accident, in which 15 people lost their lives. The Chief Minister declared ₹2 lakh compensation for the families of each deceased, ₹1 lakh for those who sustained serious injuries, and ₹25,000 for individuals with minor injuries. The financial assistance will be provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund as an immediate measure to support those affected.

The Chief Minister’s Office emphasized that while no monetary aid can truly compensate for the loss of human lives, the relief is intended to offer some support to grieving families during this difficult time. The Chief Minister expressed deep sorrow over the incident and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the accident.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, he stated that authorities are standing firmly with the victims and their families and are ensuring that all necessary assistance is extended without delay. Efforts are being made to provide medical care and other essential support to those injured. According to Shiv Kumar Sharma, the death toll has risen to 15. The accident occurred when a passenger bus traveling from Ramnagar to Udhampur collided with an auto rickshaw. Fortunately, all passengers in the auto rickshaw survived the crash.
