Nepal PM Balendra Shah Thanks India, China for Flood Relief Efforts

Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah has expressed his gratitude to India, China and other countries for their support following the devastating floods and landslides that have affected parts of Nepal. Shah said the assistance from neighbouring countries and the international community has been important as Nepal continues rescue, relief and recovery operations.

The floods and landslides caused widespread destruction in several parts of the country, damaging roads, bridges, homes and other critical infrastructure. Rescue teams have been working in difficult conditions to reach affected communities and search for people who remain missing. India was among the countries that responded to Nepal's emergency situation. New Delhi conveyed its support to Kathmandu and offered humanitarian assistance as rescue operations got underway. Indian assistance has included relief supplies and support aimed at helping Nepal deal with the immediate impact of the disaster.

China has also extended assistance to Nepal. As a neighbouring country, China has been involved in supporting relief and rescue efforts in areas affected by the disaster. The cooperation from both India and China has highlighted the importance of regional assistance during major natural emergencies in the Himalayan region.

Shah's appreciation comes as Nepal faces a difficult recovery process. The destruction of infrastructure has made transportation and access to some affected areas challenging, while authorities continue to provide essential supplies and assistance to displaced families. The disaster has also renewed concerns about the vulnerability of Himalayan communities to extreme weather events, floods, landslides and other climate-related hazards. Experts and authorities have increasingly stressed the need for stronger early-warning systems, better disaster preparedness and closer regional cooperation to reduce the impact of future emergencies.

The immediate priority remains the search for missing people, assistance to affected families and restoration of essential services. International support from countries including India and China is expected to remain significant as the country moves from emergency response to reconstruction.

Shah's acknowledgement of the assistance also underlines the broader importance of Nepal's relationships with its two large neighbours. Cooperation on disaster management, emergency response and infrastructure resilience could become increasingly important as countries across the Himalayan region confront growing environmental risks.
