Miss World 2025 Sees First Winner from Thailand Meet the Political Science Student Promoting Breast Cancer Awareness

Opal Suchata has made history as the first Miss World winner from Thailand, succeeding last year's titleholder Krystyna Pyszkova of Czechia. She becomes the 72nd Miss World, as announced by the organisation. Opal stood out among the top four contestants in the final round, which included Hasset Dereje from Ethiopia as the first runner-up, Maja Kladja from Poland, and Aurelie Joachim from Martinique. Finalists were asked a question aimed at evaluating their vision, communication skills, and personal values.
Julia Morley, chairwoman of the Miss World Organisation and head of the jury, praised the finalists—especially Opal—for their intelligence, composure, and clarity. Morley remarked that Opal demonstrated more than just beauty, describing her as a courageous and purposeful woman with a powerful voice.
Opal Suchata, born in 2003 in Phuket, is currently pursuing a political science degree at Thammasat University in Bangkok. She is a strong advocate for breast cancer awareness, inspired by her personal experience of undergoing breast surgery at age 16 to remove a benign tumour. For the Beauty With A Purpose segment of the Miss World 2025 competition, Opal led efforts to support breast cancer prevention. She launched the "Opal for Her" initiative, focused on increasing awareness and raising funds for the cause.
Beyond winning the Miss World 2025 crown, Opal also triumphed in the contest’s Multimedia Challenge and ranked first on the contestant app leaderboard, amassing over 2.3 million views. She had previously competed in Miss Universe 2024, where she finished as the third runner-up. In her acceptance speech as Miss World 2025, Opal said, "This moment is more than just my achievement—it is the dream of every young girl who wants to be acknowledged, empowered, and bring change. I am grateful to carry this legacy forward and use this platform to make a meaningful impact."
