Major Global Firms Huawei, Alibaba and Emirates Expected at Modi's BRICS Business Address

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the BRICS Business Forum in New Delhi as India prepares to host the 18th BRICS Summit on September 12 and 13. The business gathering is expected to draw senior representatives from several major international companies, including Chinese technology firms Huawei and Alibaba, as well as Emirates and other prominent global businesses.

The strong corporate presence comes as India seeks to use its BRICS chairmanship to deepen economic cooperation among member countries, with trade, investment, technology, resilient supply chains and sustainable development among the key areas of focus. The participation of leading Chinese companies is particularly significant amid efforts by India and China to gradually improve economic relations. Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to attend the New Delhi summit, marking his first visit to India in seven years.

Business ties between the two countries have shown signs of a cautious recovery, although companies continue to face regulatory and investment-related challenges. Reuters reported that some Chinese companies have remained hesitant about expanding their investments in India despite the recent diplomatic thaw.

The BRICS business discussions are expected to examine ways to strengthen trade and investment links while encouraging cooperation in emerging areas such as digital technology, startups, energy and manufacturing. India is also looking to promote initiatives involving digital public infrastructure, startup financing and cross-border economic cooperation as part of its BRICS agenda. The broader objective is to translate political engagement within the grouping into practical economic opportunities for businesses and investors. The presence of major companies from China, the United Arab Emirates and other BRICS economies is expected to add a significant commercial dimension to the summit.

The business forum also comes at a time when global companies are reassessing supply chains and investment strategies amid geopolitical and trade uncertainties. India is seeking to position itself as an important destination for manufacturing, technology, infrastructure and long-term investment. Modi's address is therefore expected to focus on strengthening business connectivity and encouraging greater cooperation among BRICS economies as India hosts the grouping's annual summit.
