Jaishankar Meets Ghana's President, Underscores Growing Momentum in India-Ghana Ties

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday during the Ghana leg of his three-nation official tour, which also includes Côte d’Ivoire and Ethiopia. The meeting focused on the growing momentum in bilateral relations between India and Ghana following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s landmark visit to the African nation last year.
Jaishankar conveyed greetings from President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to President Mahama. He said the two leaders discussed the progress made in the India-Ghana partnership and explored opportunities to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries. The External Affairs Minister also praised President Mahama’s vision for Ghana’s development and welcomed his commitment to expanding the Comprehensive Partnership between India and Ghana across a range of sectors.
Jaishankar’s visit to Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire and Ethiopia is scheduled from October 6 to 10, according to the Ministry of External Affairs. During the tour, he is expected to hold talks with his counterparts and meet senior leadership in all three countries to review bilateral relations and discuss areas of mutual cooperation.
The agenda includes discussions on trade and economic ties, development partnerships, capacity building and people-to-people connections. The leaders are also expected to exchange views on regional and international developments of common interest. According to the MEA, the visit underlines India’s continued efforts to strengthen its engagement with African nations and reinforce its solidarity with the Global South. While in Addis Ababa, Jaishankar is also scheduled to chair the Regional Heads of Mission Conference, adding a diplomatic and strategic dimension to his Ethiopia visit.
