Jackie Shroff Remembers Lata Mangeshkar on Her 97th Birth Anniversary

Veteran actor Jackie Shroff remembered legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar on what would have been her 97th birth anniversary, sharing an emotional tribute to the iconic voice of Indian cinema. Taking to Instagram, Shroff posted a collage featuring photographs of the late singer and expressed his affection in a brief but heartfelt message, saying that Lata Mangeshkar would always remain in the hearts of her admirers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to the legendary singer on her birth anniversary. In a post on X, Modi recalled Lata Mangeshkar's contribution to India's cultural identity and said her extraordinary singing talent helped bring recognition to the country around the world. He also highlighted her support for initiatives connected with the nation's development.

Mangeshkar, widely known as the "Nightingale of India", remains one of the most influential voices in the history of Indian music. Her career, which began in the 1940s, spanned several decades and included songs in Hindi, Marathi and numerous other Indian languages. She reportedly recorded music in more than 36 languages, establishing a remarkable musical legacy.

Over the years, she worked with some of India's most celebrated composers, including Naushad, S.D. Burman, R.D. Burman, Madan Mohan, Laxmikant-Pyarelal and A.R. Rahman. Her memorable recordings, including Aayega Aanewala, Lag Jaa Gale, Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya and Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon, continue to hold a special place in the country's musical memory.

Her contribution was recognised with several of India's highest honours. She received the Padma Bhushan in 1969, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989, the Padma Vibhushan in 1999 and the Bharat Ratna in 2001. Lata Mangeshkar died in Mumbai in 2022 at the age of 92. Years after her passing, her recordings continue to reach new audiences, while tributes from public figures and fans reflect the enduring place her voice holds in India's cultural history.
