Heavy snowfall in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir, has transformed the Kotranka sub-division and the Pir Panjal range into a picturesque winter wonderland, drawing both tourists and locals. Reportedly the heaviest snowfall in the past 25 years, it has brought joy as well as challenges to the region.

ADC Kotranka, Dilmir Choudhary, stated that while there have been some power outages, residents are taking necessary precautions, and no medical emergencies have been reported so far. He added that people from upper mountain areas have relocated to lower regions due to limited accessibility, and although some lowland areas still face avalanche risks, precautionary measures and advisories have been issued.

Choudhary noted that Kotranka has not seen such heavy snowfall in the past 25 years, and locals are excited about it. He also highlighted the benefits for agriculture and horticulture, especially as the snowfall will help alleviate the local water shortage. However, connectivity has been affected, with the Rajouri-Kotranka-Budhal road blocked due to snow. Electricity was disrupted for two days but has largely been restored, though a few areas still require attention.

He urged people to avoid avalanche-prone zones and unnecessary travel, advising them to take precautions, drink boiled water, and use emergency contact numbers if needed. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), are working to restore electricity and clear roads using heavy machinery. Despite the disruptions, tourists are enjoying the snowfall, likening it to the experience in the Kashmir Valley.
