The Indian Navy's frontline warship INS Trikand successfully prevented a piracy attempt on the merchant vessel MV Golden Arsenal in the Gulf of Aden on Wednesday night, according to official sources. Following reports of suspicious activity, the Navy deployed its elite Marine Commandos (MARCOS) to board the vessel. The ship, which was transporting critical cargo bound for India, had one Indian national among its crew.

Sources said the crew acted swiftly by securing themselves inside the vessel's designated safe room after pirates attempted to board. They also managed to alert authorities through established emergency communication channels. As INS Trikand closed in on the merchant vessel, the suspected pirates abandoned their attempt and fled the area. MARCOS personnel subsequently boarded the ship, conducted a thorough security sweep, and confirmed that it was safe.

This marks the latest in a series of anti-piracy operations carried out by the Indian Navy in the region. On June 19, INS Trikand also responded to a distress alert from the merchant vessel MV Fareeda 5 after a suspected piracy incident in the Western Indian Ocean. The warship quickly reached the area, investigated the threat, and ensured the vessel's safety.

The Indian Navy reiterated its commitment to protecting commercial shipping routes, stating that it remains a preferred security partner and first responder in the region. The Navy emphasized its continued efforts to counter piracy and maintain safe maritime trade across the Indian Ocean.

On May 27, another Indian Navy warship, INS Kolkata, successfully disrupted a suspected piracy attempt involving the merchant vessel MV Mashallah 1 in the Western Indian Ocean. Using its onboard helicopter and boarding teams, INS Kolkata investigated the reported threat, preventing any attack and ensuring the vessel's safe passage. The Indian Navy has significantly increased its anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden and surrounding waters, reinforcing maritime security and safeguarding international shipping lanes against emerging threats.
