Indian rally legend Hari Singh has been missing for over 48 hours following a speedboat accident in the Maldives. The boat, carrying seven passengers, capsized early on Friday morning. Among those on board was industrialist Gautam Singhania, who was rescued and returned to Mumbai. However, the Chandigarh-based rally driver has yet to be located.
According to PTI, Hari Singh is one of two individuals unaccounted for after the crash. A source stated that both Singh and the boat’s captain remain missing, though authorities have not ruled out the possibility that they may have died. “Authorities in the Maldives have reported that Hari Singh and the captain are believed to be trapped deep within a coral reef,” the source told PTI.
Hari Singh, 59, is one of India’s most acclaimed rally drivers and a prominent figure in the country’s motorsport community. He clinched the Indian National Rally Championship five times during the 1990s and has represented India in numerous international rally competitions. He also won the first-ever Asia Zone Rally Championship.
Born and raised in Chandigarh, Singh is affectionately nicknamed the “Flying Sikh” and “Gypsy King” for his expertise in navigating rough terrain with the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy. In 2015, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award at Force Gurkha RFC India in Goa. Singh has served as Head of Operations at JK Tyre Motorsport and also worked as a chief instructor with Mercedes-Benz India.
