A 22-year-old Indian-origin student studying at the University of Texas at Dallas has been arrested on charges of arson and making terroristic threats after allegedly attempting to set his family home on fire. The accused, identified as Manojh Sai Lella, was taken into custody by Frisco Police earlier this week following a distress call from his family. According to local media reports, Lella’s family informed authorities that he was experiencing a mental health episode when the incident occurred.

Police investigations revealed that Lella had allegedly tried to start a fire inside the family residence and issued threats against his relatives. He now faces charges of arson (a first-degree felony) and terroristic threat (a Class A misdemeanor). Officials have clarified that, despite the arson charge referencing a place of worship, there is no evidence linking the incident to any religious site.

Lella is currently being held at Collin County Jail, with his bond set at $100,000 for the arson charge and $3,500 for the threat charge, according to police records. Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding Lella’s current mental state or the motive behind his actions. His family is said to be cooperating with investigators and has emphasized that the student had been under significant emotional distress in recent weeks.

Mental health challenges have increasingly become a concern among international students in the United States, particularly from India, who make up one of the largest student communities in American universities. Experts note that cultural isolation, academic pressure, and limited mental health support can often contribute to such crises if not addressed promptly. The case remains under investigation as Frisco Police continue to gather evidence and verify witness statements.
