New Delhi: India strongly criticized Pakistan at the United Nations after Islamabad raised the Jammu and Kashmir issue during a recent UN discussion, calling the move an “abuse” of international platforms for political purposes. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, rejected Pakistan’s remarks and reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. Speaking during a session linked to the UN Security Council’s annual report, Harish accused Pakistan of repeatedly attempting to internationalize bilateral matters.

“Such repeated references neither change facts on the ground nor contribute to constructive dialogue,” the Indian representative said during the session. Pakistan had once again referred to Jammu and Kashmir while addressing the assembly, prompting a sharp response from the Indian delegation. India maintained that issues related to Kashmir must be resolved bilaterally and not through international forums.

New Delhi also stated that Pakistan continues to misuse its presence at global institutions to spread what it described as “false and misleading narratives.” The exchange reflects the continuing diplomatic tensions between the two neighboring countries, whose relations have remained strained for years over cross-border terrorism, regional security, and the Kashmir issue.

India has consistently maintained that Jammu and Kashmir “was, is, and will always remain” an inseparable part of the country. Since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, the Indian government has repeatedly dismissed foreign comments on the matter, calling it an internal issue.

The latest war of words at the UN comes at a time when both countries are seeking to strengthen their diplomatic influence internationally. Analysts believe such confrontations are likely to continue as India and Pakistan push competing narratives on regional issues at global platforms. Despite periodic tensions, experts say meaningful dialogue between the two nations remains limited, with no major diplomatic breakthrough in sight.
