IAF Unveils Special Cover During Aerial Display at Varanasi's Namo Ghat

The Indian Air Force (IAF) released a special commemorative cover during its aerial display at Namo Ghat in Varanasi on October 25, as part of its public outreach programme celebrating 94 years of service to the nation. According to a post shared by the IAF’s Central Air Command on X, the cover was jointly released by Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, and Padmagandha Mishra, Postmaster General of the Varanasi Region.
The event was part of the IAF Day Aerial Display 2026, titled Wings over Ganges. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the programme as the chief guest. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were also present. The aerial showcase featured a diverse range of military aircraft, including the Tejas light combat aircraft, LCH Prachand attack helicopter, IL-76, IL-78, C-295 and AN-32 transport aircraft. Frontline fighters such as the Su-30MKI and Rafale also took part. Aircraft from the Indian Navy and Indian Army joined the display, highlighting coordination among the three services.
The Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team brought the programme to a spectacular conclusion with precision flying, daring manoeuvres and coordinated loops against the backdrop of the Ganga and Varanasi’s historic ghats. Squadron Leader Bhavesh Sharma, who flies in the fifth position on the leftmost side of the team’s signature nine-aircraft diamond formation, described the location as a special feature of the performance. Speaking to ANI, he said the team was the final act of the display and highlighted the scenic setting overlooking the Ganga.
Wing Commander Jaideep Singh, the IAF’s Public Relations Officer, said the event held particular significance for the people of Kashi. He added that a total of 94 aircraft participated in the flypast, with formations involving approximately 31 aircraft. The commemorative cover added a philatelic dimension to the celebrations, marking the Air Force’s long-standing contribution to national security while bringing the service closer to the public through a major aerial event in Varanasi.
