Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, the outgoing chief of the Indian Air Force (IAF), on Thursday highlighted the force’s operational preparedness and combat capability as the IAF marked its 94th Air Force Day. He said that while modern aircraft, weapons and technology are important, the real strength of the force comes from its Air Warriors.

Speaking at the Air Force Day celebrations, AP Singh pointed to the rapidly changing global security landscape, characterised by uncertainty, evolving geopolitical challenges and conflicts emerging across different regions. He stressed that these developments have reinforced the importance of air power in safeguarding a nation’s interests. As the custodian of India’s airspace, the IAF remains vigilant and prepared to respond to any emerging threat or contingency, he said.

The Air Chief Marshal said that possessing the most advanced aircraft or systems does not, by itself, determine the effectiveness of an air force. Instead, operational preparedness — particularly the ability to respond quickly and confidently when required — is the real measure of military capability.

Reflecting on the IAF’s operations over the past year, AP Singh recalled how quickly the force transitioned into combat operations. He specifically highlighted the IAF’s performance during Operation Sindoor, pointing to both its offensive capabilities and the effectiveness of its air defence systems.

He also said the phrase “Infallible, Impervious and Precise” represents more than a slogan, describing it as a reflection of the force’s determination, capabilities and operational resolve. The IAF chief further highlighted the growing emphasis on ownership and accountability within the organisation. He said operational capability and readiness were progressing in the right direction, while a stronger culture of responsibility was developing across the force.

According to AP Singh, equipment, technology and military platforms should be viewed as tools, with Air Warriors remaining the fundamental source of the IAF’s success. He also stressed the importance of maintaining the core values of the armed forces and moving beyond narrow, tenure-oriented approaches while contributing to the broader goal of nation-building. The Air Chief Marshal also spoke about the responsibility of commanders to encourage effective decision-making. By delegating responsibilities and giving personnel opportunities to lead, commanders can help develop leadership qualities across the force, he said.

Addressing Air Warriors, AP Singh urged personnel to take pride in their duties and recognise their individual contribution to the organisation. He emphasised that every member of the force represents an important link in the larger chain and called on them to ensure that they never become a weak point that could undermine the IAF’s overall strength. The 94th Air Force Day celebrations featured a major parade at Hindon Air Base, showcasing the capabilities and discipline of the Indian Air Force. AP Singh also inspected the parade as the IAF marked another year of service to the nation.
