Hong Kong prepares for cold winds as temperatures drop to 14'C.

The winter influenza season in Hong Kong typically starts in early January, but residents are already experiencing a noticeable drop in temperatures. According to an update from the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) on November 17, the weather is expected to become significantly windier and cooler in the coming days. The HKO forecasted that by Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures in urban areas will dip to around 14°C, while parts of the New Territories will experience even colder conditions.
The Observatory has urged residents, particularly the elderly and those with chronic health conditions, to be mindful of the weather changes and take appropriate measures to stay warm. This includes dressing in layers and seeking shelter from the cold winds, which can pose health risks to vulnerable individuals. The HKO also emphasized that while the weather will be harsh for a few days, there is an expectation for improvement later in the week, with sunnier and drier conditions returning.
Hong Kong's weather has been volatile in recent months. On September 24, the city was hit by Super Typhoon Ragasa, the strongest tropical storm of the year, which brought hurricane-force winds and torrential rainfall. The storm caused significant disruption, shutting down the city and leading to the cancellation of over 700 flights. As the city braces for colder weather, authorities continue to monitor and provide updates to ensure the public's safety during these changing conditions.
