The Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has released a cumulative report on the 2025 monsoon season, which began on June 20, confirming a total of 419 deaths across the state as of September 17. Of these, 237 were rain-related—primarily due to landslides (52), falls from trees or steep rocks (45), drowning (40), cloudbursts (17), and flash floods (11)—while 182 fatalities were caused by road accidents.

The monsoon has also inflicted extensive damage to both public and private property, with losses to public property estimated at Rs 4,59,536.54 lakhs. Key infrastructure damage includes the Public Works Department (Rs 1,41,387.8 lakhs), Jal Shakti Vibhag (Rs 13,946.69 lakhs), and the Power Department (Rs 2,045.05 lakhs). Housing damage is severe, with 934 pucca and 2,150 kutcha houses fully destroyed, and 583 pucca and 1,676 kutcha houses partially damaged.

District-wise, 145 landslides, 98 flash floods, and 46 cloudbursts were recorded. Lahaul & Spiti reported the highest landslides (29) and flash floods (57), while Shimla and Kullu recorded 27 and 23 landslides, respectively. Mandi saw the most cloudbursts (19), followed by Kullu (12) and Chamba (6). Rescue operations under ‘Operation Hausal’ continue in flash-flood-affected Dharampur, where floods hit the bus stand, market, and surrounding homes on September 15–16. Himachal police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are actively conducting relief operations, with two people still missing.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu recently chaired a high-level meeting to assess the damage, expressing concern over the loss of lives and property. He directed officials to take immediate action to ensure the safety and well-being of affected residents. In the last two days, five people have died—three in Nihari and two near Pandoh Mohal Suma in Mandi district—while two remain missing.
