Hamas releases all remaining hostages to Israel as Trump declares the Gaza war has ended.

Hamas released all 20 remaining hostages to Israel on Monday (Oct 13), marking a significant turning point toward ending two years of intense fighting in Gaza. The development followed a truce brokered with the help of US President Donald Trump, who celebrated the moment as “a great day.” The Israeli military confirmed receiving the final 13 hostages after the first group of seven arrived earlier in the day. The news triggered scenes of jubilation in Tel Aviv’s Hostage Square, where thousands gathered, cheering, embracing, and shedding tears of relief.
“This is a great day. This is a new beginning,” Trump said during his visit to Israel, where he was greeted with a hero’s welcome and addressed the Knesset before traveling to Egypt for a summit aimed at fostering lasting peace in Gaza. When asked if the two-year Gaza war was officially over, Trump replied, “Yes.” At the same time, buses carrying Palestinian detainees released under the ceasefire and hostage exchange deal were seen traveling toward Gaza from Israeli prisons, according to footage broadcast on Israeli television.
Families of the released hostages expressed profound joy and disbelief. “I am overwhelmed with happiness. It’s hard to put my emotions into words. I haven’t slept all night,” said Viki Cohen, mother of freed hostage Nimrod Cohen, as she made her way to the Reim military base, where the hostages were being reunited with their loved ones.
