Kaylee Hottle, the young actress known for her role in Godzilla vs. Kong, has died at the age of 18 following a car accident in Maryland on Tuesday. The news was shared by her father, Joshua Hottle, during a Facebook livestream conducted in American Sign Language. He later confirmed to TMZ, as reported by Variety, that Kaylee was killed in a car crash in Maryland and that he was travelling from Texas to bring her remains home.

The Texas School for the Deaf, where Hottle was a senior student, also confirmed her death through a statement posted on social media. The school expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the teenager and requested privacy for her family and friends during this difficult period. "It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that one of our TSD seniors, Kaylee Hottle, tragically passed away yesterday in a car accident in Frederick, Maryland," the school said in its statement.

The institution added that it had limited information about the incident and urged people not to speculate about the circumstances surrounding the accident while respecting the privacy of those close to her. Hottle and her father were both deaf and belonged to a multi-generational deaf family. Her journey as an actress was widely recognized for bringing greater representation of the deaf community to mainstream cinema.

She gained international attention for portraying Jia, a deaf orphan who develops a special connection with Kong in the 2021 film Godzilla vs. Kong. She reprised the role in the 2024 sequel Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, where her performance earned her a nomination for the Saturn Award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor. Kaylee Hottle’s portrayal of Jia was praised for highlighting deaf representation in major Hollywood productions, and her passing has sparked tributes from fans and members of the entertainment community.
