Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday said that the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force remain prepared for a possible "Operation Sindoor 2.0" if circumstances require it, while noting that Operation Sindoor is still underway with only a temporary halt in hostilities.

Speaking after reviewing the Passing Out Parade of the NDA's 150th Course in Pune, General Dwivedi highlighted the armed forces' focus on strengthening inter-service coordination and preparing for future conflicts. He observed that modern warfare has become increasingly transparent, making careful deployment of troops and protection of civilians along border areas essential.

The Army Chief said the armed forces continue to maintain readiness while enhancing joint operational capabilities. He emphasized that constant surveillance and real-time visibility on the battlefield demand greater caution in military planning and execution. On information warfare, General Dwivedi stressed that its effectiveness depends on public trust and national unity. He said a nation where citizens have confidence in credible sources of information and work together is better positioned to succeed in times of conflict.

Addressing the proposed military theatre commands, he stated that the process of theatrisation is progressing steadily. According to him, discussions within the Chiefs of Staff Committee have been completed and a detailed report has been submitted to the Defence Minister for review by various stakeholders.

General Dwivedi explained that under the proposed structure, service chiefs would oversee force generation, sustenance and preparedness, while theatre commanders would be responsible for operational employment and coordination of forces. He expressed optimism that the reforms would move forward under the leadership of the next Chief of Defence Staff and could be implemented on the ground within the next two to three years.

Reflecting on his own days at the National Defence Academy, the Army Chief recalled his association with Charlie Squadron, which was named Champion Squadron this term. He praised the enthusiasm, confidence and capabilities of the current generation of cadets, expressing confidence that they would take the armed forces to even greater heights in the future.
