Celebrity chef and longtime Food Network personality Anne Burrell has passed away at the age of 55. Her representatives confirmed that she died early Tuesday morning at her home in New York, although no official cause of death has been released. In a heartfelt statement, her family described her as a cherished wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend, remembering her for the radiant joy she brought into the lives of those around her. “Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew,” they shared, noting the impact she had on millions of fans around the world.

The Food Network, where Burrell spent much of her career, also paid tribute, calling her an exceptional chef and vibrant personality who dedicated herself to sharing the pleasures of cooking. She was especially known for her role on Worst Cooks in America, and for her energetic, encouraging presence on various shows like Chopped, Food Network Star, and her Emmy-nominated series Secrets of a Restaurant Chef. Burrell's contribution to the culinary world extended beyond television—she was also a teacher, author, and advocate for accessible, joyful cooking.

Born in Cazenovia, New York, on September 21, 1969, Burrell’s culinary journey began with a deep appreciation for food inspired by her mother’s home cooking and TV legend Julia Child. After earning a degree in English and Communications from Canisius College, she followed her passion to the Culinary Institute of America, graduating in 1996. She refined her craft in Italy, where she studied and apprenticed in various kitchens. Back in the U.S., she worked with famed chef Lidia Bastianich before making a name for herself in the New York restaurant scene. Burrell later transitioned into teaching and eventually television, becoming a beloved and influential voice in the culinary world. She is survived by her husband Stuart Claxton, his son Javier, her mother, siblings, and nieces and nephews.
