DMK MP Kanimozhi has once again strongly criticized Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for his remarks in the Lok Sabha, calling them "abusive" and "undemocratic." She accused the central government of unfairly withholding funds meant for Tamil Nadu’s education sector, linking them to the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) and the three-language formula.
Speaking on the issue, Kanimozhi, the MP from Thoothukudi, stated, "The Union government has no right to withhold funds that belong to Tamil Nadu’s children. They are trying to impose the three-language policy on us at the cost of our students’ future." She also condemned Pradhan’s response, alleging that he called Tamil Nadu MPs "liars" and "uncivilized," a remark she deemed unacceptable from a Union Minister. Despite Pradhan withdrawing his words, Kanimozhi and her party members have demanded an official apology.
The controversy erupted over the Union government’s decision to withhold ₹2,000 crore in education funds unless Tamil Nadu agreed to the NEP and three-language policy. Kanimozhi clarified that Chief Minister MK Stalin had already written to both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister Pradhan, stating that Tamil Nadu would not accept the policy and urging the release of funds without conditions.
In response to the remarks, Kanimozhi and fellow DMK MPs staged a protest at the Parliament complex, all dressed in black, opposing the NEP and the alleged imposition of Hindi. She also filed a breach of privilege notice against Pradhan. Meanwhile, CM Stalin also lashed out at Pradhan, accusing him of "arrogance" and "insulting" the people of Tamil Nadu. In a post on X, Stalin criticized Pradhan’s stance, saying the minister acted like an "arrogant king" and needed to be "disciplined." The DMK maintains that Tamil Nadu has always been firm in its opposition to the NEP and has not changed its stance. The issue led to protests inside the Lok Sabha, causing an adjournment of proceedings.
