The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has instructed IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers to appear before the regulator on the afternoon of December 11, officials stated. Elbers has also been asked to provide comprehensive data and updates on the airline’s recent operational disruptions.

The DGCA has directed the CEO, along with senior officials from all relevant departments, to attend the meeting and present detailed information on critical operational areas. The regulator seeks updates on flight restoration, including the status of resuming services across the network, progress in re-accommodating affected passengers, priority handling for vulnerable travelers such as the elderly, medical passengers, and unaccompanied minors, and the monitoring system in place to ensure timely completion of restoration efforts.

IndiGo has been asked to provide its pilot and crew recruitment plan, including current staffing levels, upcoming recruitment and training schedules, and measures taken to prevent roster shortages and flight duty time limitation (FDTL) issues. Regarding cancellations and refunds, the airline must submit data on cancelled flights, processed refunds, refund turnaround times for both direct and OTA bookings, and adherence to DGCA Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR).

The regulator has also requested details on baggage handling, including delayed or misrouted luggage, steps taken to trace and return baggage, average timelines, and compensation provided according to regulations. The DGCA wants information on the performance of IndiGo’s SMS and email alert systems, improvements made for real-time updates on delays and cancellations, and coordination enhancements between the Operations Control Centre, airports, and customer support. Finally, the airline is required to provide updates on rerouting policies following cancellations, including the process for rerouting passengers on alternative flights, data on rerouting within IndiGo’s network and with other airlines, and compliance with DGCA requirements for free rerouting.
