Delhi LG reviews women safety in DTC buses and orders stricter security measures.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor TS Sandhu on Monday reviewed the implementation of steps aimed at improving the safety of women travelling in DTC buses, following directives issued in a meeting held on June 3 with senior officials, including the Delhi Police Commissioner and the Transport Secretary.
Officials informed him that DTC had conducted a preliminary assessment to identify vulnerable routes with high numbers of women commuters. Based on this, Delhi Police has been requested to deploy women police personnel on Ladies Special buses operating on these routes, particularly during peak morning and evening hours. The Police Commissioner also noted that, while Delhi Police will provide female staff, women Home Guard Marshals could also be deployed to support on-board security.
Taking a strict view of women’s safety, the LG instructed authorities that security must not be compromised under any circumstances. He stressed the need for a zero-tolerance approach and immediate, visible action on the ground to ensure a safer travel environment for women. These women personnel will help prevent harassment and maintain order on buses reserved for women passengers, especially during boarding and alighting, including on routes covering remote areas of Outer Delhi. Officials added that these buses will operate with women staff as part of the new measures.
