Delhi Police Crime Branch officials have arrested a 22-year-old suspected gunman associated with the Kaushal Chaudhary Gang and prevented an alleged plan to kill a businessman in North Delhi’s Burari area, authorities said on Sunday. The accused, Kuldeep Singh, a resident of SSN Park in Bhalswa Dairy, was taken into custody by the Anti-Gangster Squad on February 7 in Dwarka after police received specific intelligence about his movements. Investigators said Singh was acting under the directions of gang operatives Pawan Shokeen and Gurdeep, who are believed to be operating from abroad. The intended target was reportedly a businessman in Burari, and the planned attack was meant to strengthen the gang’s dominance and expand its extortion activities.

Police laid a trap near Nursery Road, close to an under-construction market in Sector 17, Dwarka, where Singh was intercepted while riding a scooty. He allegedly tried to escape but was quickly apprehended. Officers recovered a PX-30 automatic pistol, a loaded 7.65 mm pistol, and five live cartridges from his possession. A case has been registered under the Arms Act at the Crime Branch police station.

Further investigation revealed that the scooty used by Singh had been reported stolen in an earlier case registered at Murad Nagar police station in Uttar Pradesh. Authorities also said Singh had previously been involved in a major extortion and firing case in Punjab in 2024 and was released on bail in August 2025. He is suspected to have links to several other criminal cases in Delhi and Punjab.

During questioning, Singh told police he left his college studies after his father was killed in a property dispute in 2019. He later came into contact with gang associate Pradeep alias Bantu, who introduced him to Pawan Shokeen. Acting on gang instructions, Singh allegedly took part in firing incidents in Punjab and Delhi and was arrested in connection with one such case in April 2024. Police also said Singh was involved in a ₹5 crore extortion case in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, where he and his accomplices allegedly fired at a cloth shop to threaten the owner. He was arrested in that case and later established closer ties with gang members while in jail.

Investigators stated that the weapons recovered from Singh were supplied through gang networks operating from overseas, and he had obtained them from Ambala in Haryana. He was reportedly in constant communication with gang leaders through encrypted messaging platforms and had conducted reconnaissance in Burari ahead of the planned attack. Authorities added that Singh had also distributed part of the weapons consignment to contacts in Uttar Pradesh. The Crime Branch has stepped up its crackdown on organised crime, extortion rackets, and illegal firearms in the capital. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
