Congress MP Pramod Tiwari blamed the Government of India and the Home Ministry for the attack on Farooq Abdullah.

Congress MP Pramod Tiwari on Thursday criticised the central government after an alleged assassination attempt on National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah during a wedding event in Jammu. He said the Government of India and the Ministry of Home Affairs are responsible for security failures.
Tiwari stated that since Jammu and Kashmir is a Union Territory, law and order fall directly under the Home Ministry and the Lieutenant Governor. He called the incident a complete failure of both authorities and said that despite the removal of Article 370 and the change from statehood to Union Territory status, terrorism and law and order issues have not improved.
He also said that Farooq Abdullah, his father Sheikh Abdullah, and current Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have served the people with dedication and are widely respected. According to Tiwari, the security lapse that allowed the incident to occur is serious, and the central government and Home Ministry must be held accountable.
The incident took place at a wedding at Royal Park in the Greater Kailash area of Jammu, where a man allegedly tried to shoot Farooq Abdullah with a loaded pistol. Security personnel from the National Security Guard who were deployed with him quickly intervened and stopped the attempt. Police detained the suspect, identified as Kamal Singh, a resident of Purani Mandi in Jammu. Authorities recovered the firearm used in the attempt and have begun an investigation.
On Wednesday, Omar Abdullah described the incident as an assassination attempt and questioned how the attacker managed to get so close despite his father having Z+ security from the National Security Guard. In a post on X, he said his father narrowly escaped harm and praised the protection team for preventing the attack while raising concerns about the security breach.
