Former My Chemical Romance drummer Bob Bryar’s cause of death has been officially ruled undetermined, according to his autopsy report. The 44-year-old musician was found dead at his home in November 2024, with authorities revealing that he was last seen alive on November 4 but was only discovered on November 26. TMZ reported that investigators found three large canisters of nitrous oxide near his body, along with antidepressants. While the medical examiner suspected an overdose—whether intentional or accidental— the condition of his body made it impossible to determine a definitive cause, leading them to classify his death as undetermined.
Following the news of his passing, My Chemical Romance released a statement asking for patience and understanding as they processed their former bandmate’s death. Later, on December 2, they paid tribute to Bob on Instagram, remembering him as an important part of their history and sending their condolences to his family and friends.
Bob joined My Chemical Romance in 2004, shortly after the release of their breakthrough album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, replacing their original drummer Matt Pelissier. He remained with the band until 2010, contributing to their iconic album The Black Parade (2006) and working on material for Danger Days before his departure. Before becoming a drummer, Bob studied sound engineering at the University of Florida and worked as a sound engineer for bands like Thrice and The Used. He became friends with My Chemical Romance while touring with The Used in 2004, which led to his eventual role in the band.
When Bob left My Chemical Romance in 2010, guitarist Frank Iero shared on the band’s blog that the decision had been difficult for everyone. He wished Bob the best and encouraged fans to do the same. Bob’s passing marks the loss of a talented musician who played a crucial role in shaping My Chemical Romance’s sound during a pivotal time in their career.
