Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman presents a 180-day priority agenda.

Bangladesh’s newly appointed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has introduced his government’s 180-day priority agenda, focusing on four major areas. His plan emphasizes restoring law and order, controlling the prices of essential commodities, ensuring uninterrupted electricity and gas supply while lowering the cost of living, and improving public transport, particularly the railway network, to enhance connectivity. He also placed strong emphasis on combating corruption.
Rahman, who took oath as Prime Minister on Tuesday, has directed every ministry to prepare and execute its own action plan within this six-month period. Traditionally, new governments in Bangladesh announce a 100-day priority program, but Rahman has extended this to 180 days, providing a longer initial implementation phase. Addressing the nation on Wednesday night, he stated that eliminating crime, controlling corruption, and restoring public confidence in peace and security are central to his government’s agenda.
Following the formation of the new government, ministers have begun outlining their respective priorities. Home Minister Salauddin Ahmed informed reporters that mob violence would no longer be tolerated and declared that strict measures are being taken to maintain order, including efforts to control drug-related activities and strengthen overall security.
Although Rahman did not directly address foreign policy in his speech, Foreign Minister Kalilur Rahman later clarified that Bangladesh would follow a “Bangladesh First” approach. This policy aims to prioritize national interests while maintaining friendly relations with all countries, continuing the foreign policy direction associated with former President Ziaur Rahman.
Rahman also delivered a message of unity to the nation, emphasizing that Bangladesh belongs to all its citizens regardless of religion or region. He expressed his government’s commitment to ensuring safety and security for everyone. On the occasion of Ramzan, he extended greetings to the public and urged businesses to keep essential commodity prices affordable. He further warned that the BNP government would take firm action to dismantle syndicates involved in corruption and irregular practices.
