At least 11 people were killed and several others injured in a train derailment in Bilaspur.

At least 11 people were killed and 20 others injured in a tragic train derailment in Bilaspur on Tuesday. The accident took place when a Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) local train collided with a stationary goods train near Bilaspur station. Rescue operations have been resumed at the site. The impact of the collision left 20 people injured, identified as Mathura Bhaskar (55), Chaura Bhaskar (50), Shatrughan (50), Geeta Debnath (30), Mehnish Khan (19), Sanju Vishwakarma (35), Soni Yadav (25), Santosh Hansraj (60), Rashmi Raj (34), Rishi Yadav (2), Tularam Agrawal (60), Aradhana Nishad (16), Mohan Sharma (29), Anjula Singh (49), Shanta Devi Gautam (64), Pritam Kumar (18), Shailesh Chandra (49), Ashok Kumar Dixit (54), Neeraj Dewangan (53), and Rajendra Maruti Bisare (60).
All injured passengers are undergoing medical treatment under the supervision of doctors. The railway authorities are maintaining constant contact with hospitals to ensure the injured receive timely assistance. Senior railway officials are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating efforts to ensure a quick recovery for those affected.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced financial aid of Rs 5 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for each injured person. “A train accident occurred near Bilaspur today. Five people have been reported dead so far, and rescue operations are ongoing. This is deeply saddening. Families of the deceased will receive Rs 5 lakh, while the injured will be given free treatment and Rs 50,000 each,” the Chief Minister said in Raipur. Bilaspur District Collector Sanjay Agrawal stated that the accident happened when the first and last bogies of a local MEMU train and a goods train collided near Bilaspur at around 4 p.m.
