Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla inspires Delhi students at the AI Grind launch, urging them to lead the future of AI innovation.

Indian Air Force Group Captain and astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, who recently journeyed aboard the International Space Station, addressed students at the launch of the Delhi AI Grind Challenge on December 7. Encouraging the youth with the message "You are the future," Shukla emphasized the critical role young innovators play in shaping India's future, especially with advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI).
The Delhi government has initiated the AI Grind Challenge as a city-centric program to engage over 500,000 students from more than 1,000 educational institutions in practical AI application. Spanning six months, the program aims to build skills in problem-solving related to real-world urban challenges including traffic management, waste disposal, healthcare, and climate change. Alongside student participation, the initiative will certify thousands of teachers as AI mentors and foster innovation through prototype development.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Education Minister Ashish Sood highlighted the importance of the program in aligning with national objectives for a tech-enabled, developed India by 2047. The challenge is positioned as a key step in creating an AI-ready generation capable of driving transformational growth.
Shukla shared insights from his space mission, explaining how AI technologies support critical operations aboard the International Space Station and how similar technologies can empower students to solve terrestrial challenges. His presence at the event underscored the significance of blending scientific achievement with grassroots innovation.
The AI Grind Challenge marks a significant push by Delhi to become a hub for AI education and innovation, preparing youth for emerging opportunities in technology-driven industries. The program's focus on hands-on learning, mentorship, and scalable solutions aims to unlock the creative potential of the city's young minds, driving progress toward India's vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047.
