Ashutosh Dixit emphasized that collaboration and innovation should progress hand in hand while speaking at Kalam and Kavach 3.0

Ashutosh Dixit emphasized that Jointness, Aatmanirbharta, and Innovation should not be treated as separate concepts, stating that all three are deeply connected and must advance together to enhance India’s defence strength. Addressing the third edition of Kalam and Kavach 3.0, the Air Marshal introduced the conclave’s theme, “Taking JAI Forward with I².” He explained that JAI represents Jointness, Aatmanirbharta, and Innovation, while I² stands for Indigenisation and International Collaboration.
During his speech, Dixit said the Indian defence forces are currently at an important stage where joint doctrine, strategic planning, and capability development are evolving together. He noted that platforms like Kalam and Kavach help bridge the gap between policymaking and real-world implementation.
He further explained that the five ideas connected to JAI and I² cannot function independently. According to him, joint operations without strong indigenous capabilities remain vulnerable, self-reliance without innovation slows progress, and innovation without coordination among forces becomes fragmented. He stressed that all these elements must work in sync. Referring to the meaning behind “Kalam and Kavach,” Dixit described it as a combination of “ideas and protection.” He said the defence headquarters is working on creating a framework that strengthens cooperation and integration across the defence ecosystem.
The Air Marshal also highlighted three major takeaways from his address. First, he stated that jointness is no longer optional but a core requirement for modern defence forces. Second, he said indigenisation efforts must go hand in hand with innovation and long-term commitment. Third, he stressed that innovative technologies and ideas should ultimately reach operational use in the field rather than remain limited to exhibitions or demonstrations. He concluded by expressing confidence in the commitment and energy shown by defence personnel, industry leaders, and innovators participating in the event, saying the evolving defence framework would support those serving the nation effectively.
