Reliance’s next generation of leaders highlighted Jio Platforms’ role in transforming India’s digital landscape as the company made its stock market debut on Wednesday. At the listing ceremony for Jio Platforms Limited (JPL), Akash Ambani, Isha Ambani and Anant Ambani reflected on the company’s journey from a telecommunications business into a broad digital services ecosystem. Jio Platforms shares opened at Rs 1,358, representing a 21.35% premium over the IPO issue price of Rs 1,119. The stock climbed to an early high of Rs 1,374 before trading at Rs 1,357.55 at the time of reporting.

Akash Ambani, Managing Director of Jio Platforms, highlighted the overwhelming investor response to the public offering. He said the IPO was fully subscribed within 95 minutes, making it the fastest such subscription in India. The issue attracted demand worth more than Rs 7.5 lakh crore, while over 1.3 crore Indian investors participated, according to his remarks.

He also highlighted Jio’s expanding reach, noting that its homegrown platforms serve more than 540 million customers nationwide. Reflecting on the company's future ambitions, Akash said Jio had spent its first decade making internet access more accessible to millions of Indians. Its next phase, he explained, would focus on widening access to emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, cloud computing, connected devices, satellite-based connectivity and digital services that have yet to be developed.

Isha Ambani, a director at Jio Platforms, connected the listing to Reliance Industries’ history in the capital markets. She recalled the company’s first public offering in 1977, launched under founder Dhirubhai Ambani, which raised Rs 2.82 crore at a valuation of Rs 10 crore. She noted that ordinary Indian families had placed their savings and aspirations in Reliance nearly five decades ago.

Highlighting Jio’s financial performance, Isha said the company generated approximately $15.5 billion in revenue and around $8 billion in real earnings during the year. She emphasised that sustained financial success depends on delivering meaningful value to customers rather than focusing solely on profits. Anant Ambani, also a director at Jio Platforms, spoke about the wider social impact of digital connectivity. He described how access to digital services has changed everyday experiences across India, enabling students to learn, patients to consult healthcare professionals and military personnel to stay connected with their families.

Summing up Jio’s place in the country's digital transformation, Anant said, “Jio dikhta nahin. Par Bharat ke har digital sapne mein dhadakta hai,” conveying the idea that although Jio may not always be visible, it remains central to India's digital aspirations. He concluded by expressing a shared commitment with Akash and Isha to continue developing technologies and services that support the country's ambitions.
