India formally joined the United States’ flagship artificial intelligence initiative, Pax Silica, on Friday, the fifth day of the ongoing India AI Impact Summit 2026. Pax Silica focuses on advancing AI capabilities and strengthening supply chain security. The final day of the summit is set to feature major discussions on transforming India’s education system, strengthening the US-India partnership in the AI era, the role of AI in diplomacy and negotiations, data sovereignty, and the development of AI for the benefit of Indian society.

Brazil’s perspective on the future of artificial intelligence will also be highlighted, with Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva scheduled to address the summit alongside other Brazilian ministers. The concluding day may also see the adoption of the Leaders’ Declaration, which is expected to reaffirm shared commitments and outline a roadmap for global AI governance and cooperation. In addition, high-level council meetings of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence will take place.

This development follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address at the summit on Thursday, where he positioned India as a major player in the global AI ecosystem. He emphasized the need for stronger regulatory safeguards for emerging technologies and highlighted AI’s transformative potential. The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of child safety and called for wider democratization of artificial intelligence.

During the summit, Modi hosted several world leaders and chaired a CEO roundtable involving key stakeholders from the AI sector. He noted that the discussions focused on responsible scaling of AI, enhancing global collaboration, and unlocking new opportunities for growth. The Prime Minister also presented India’s MANAV vision for AI, which emphasizes ethical and moral systems, accountable governance, national sovereignty over data, inclusive and accessible AI development, and lawful and legitimate technological frameworks. He said this human-centric vision would play a vital role in ensuring AI contributes to the welfare of humanity.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, delivered a keynote address at the summit and said that early versions of true superintelligence could emerge within the next few years. He also cautioned that global oversight mechanisms, similar to those used for nuclear governance, may be necessary to regulate advanced AI systems in the future.
