The Airports Authority of India (AAI) announced on Friday that technical teams are working to restore the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which manages Air Traffic Control (ATC) data, after a technical fault disrupted operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). According to Delhi Airport, nearly 100 flights were delayed in the morning due to the issue.

AAI stated that controllers are currently handling flight plans manually, which has led to additional delays. In a post on X, AAI said, “Flight operations at Delhi Airport are facing delays because of a technical issue in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) that supports ATC data. Controllers are processing flight plans manually, causing some delays. Technical teams are working to restore the system at the earliest. We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all passengers and stakeholders.”

Passengers have been urged to contact their airlines for the latest flight updates. Delhi Airport also posted on X, confirming that flight operations were affected by an ATC system issue and that teams are collaborating with all stakeholders, including DIAL, to resolve it quickly. “Passengers are advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest flight information. We regret the inconvenience caused,” the post read.

Airlines such as Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet also issued advisories informing passengers about possible delays and urging them to check flight statuses before heading to the airport. Airline staff are assisting passengers to reduce inconvenience. Air Traffic Control (ATC) is a ground-based service responsible for managing and directing the movement of aircraft on the ground and within controlled airspace.
