Vladimir Putin on Thursday extended his condolences over the loss of lives in Uttar Pradesh caused by severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, while also wishing a quick recovery for those injured. In a message addressed to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he expressed deep sympathy for the victims and their families, noting the widespread damage and casualties caused by the natural disaster, and conveyed support along with prayers for the speedy recovery of the affected people.
Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner Harikesh Bhaskar reported that at least 104 people have died across the state due to continuous rain, lightning, and thunderstorms over the past 36 to 48 hours. He also stated that monitoring efforts are ongoing through a 24-hour Integrated Control and Command Centre, which remains fully active, and officials have been instructed to carry out field inspections.
State authorities, under the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, have initiated relief and compensation measures, with financial aid being distributed to affected families. The Chief Minister has ordered officials to visit impacted areas immediately, speed up compensation, strengthen rescue operations, and provide regular updates every three hours.
According to official reports, damage and casualties have been recorded in 19 districts, including Barabanki, Bahraich, Kanpur Dehat, Basti, Sambhal, Hardoi, and Unnao. In addition, around 130 livestock have died and 98 houses have been damaged. The Chief Minister has also expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
