Uttarakhand Police has intensified security measures in Rudraprayag to ensure the safety of the large number of pilgrims visiting the Kedarnath Temple during the Char Dham Yatra. Acting on the directions of the Superintendent of Police, extensive security arrangements have been implemented along the pilgrimage route and around the temple premises.
Joint anti-sabotage checks are being conducted by the Bomb Disposal Squad along with local police in sensitive zones around the shrine. Authorities are using advanced metal detectors and modern surveillance equipment to inspect temple entrances, resting points, and pilgrims’ belongings thoroughly. Continuous monitoring of crowded locations is also being carried out through CCTV cameras and drones to enable swift action against any suspicious activity. Police officials have urged devotees to cooperate with security personnel and adhere to all safety protocols to ensure the pilgrimage remains smooth and secure.
Vinay Shankar Pandey advised pilgrims and tourists to plan their journeys carefully after the India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for Uttarkashi and Tehri Garhwal districts. He urged devotees to remain extra cautious while travelling on May 12 and 13 due to weather concerns and suggested postponing travel until conditions improve for greater safety and convenience.
The Commissioner also appealed to pilgrims to follow all instructions issued by the administration and local authorities to ensure a safe pilgrimage experience. He stated that the state government is fully dedicated to conducting the Char Dham Yatra in a safe, organised, and smooth manner, with all departments directed to make necessary preparations. He expressed confidence that the cooperation of devotees would help ensure the successful completion of the pilgrimage.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast intense rainfall, lightning, and thunderstorms in parts of Tehri Garhwal and Uttarkashi under the orange warning. The Char Dham Yatra, one of India’s most important religious pilgrimages, officially began on April 19 with rituals at several shrines. The annual pilgrimage to Kedarnath started with the ceremonial departure of the Panchmukhi palanquin of Lord Kedarnath from the Omkareshwar Temple.
