Dilip Ghosh on Tuesday said the truth must be revealed after the Election Commission of India suspended seven officials in West Bengal over alleged misconduct related to the Special Intensive Revision process. He stated that the probe found certain officials intentionally creating complications and delays, and emphasized that those responsible should face punishment. According to him, the Commission’s action reflects serious lapses in duty.
The Election Commission has instructed the West Bengal Chief Secretary to begin disciplinary proceedings against the suspended officials, citing serious misconduct, negligence, and misuse of statutory authority. The officials include assistant electoral registration officers and block-level officers from constituencies such as Samserganj, Farakka, Maynaguri, Suti, Canning Purbo, and Debra.
Meanwhile, Mangal Pandey also commented on the issue, alleging that some officials in the state were acting under political influence rather than following the Commission’s directives. He claimed that officials appeared to be aligned with Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress instead of ensuring neutrality.
Pandey stressed that elections must be conducted fairly and transparently to maintain voter trust. He said the Commission’s action serves as a warning and urged officials to follow proper procedures in the future to ensure public confidence in the electoral process. The suspended individuals include several assistant electoral registration officers and block-level officials from different constituencies across the state, accused of misconduct and dereliction of duty during the revision process.
