Trump Says US Will Officially Rename AI as 'Super Intelligence,' Calling It Bigger Than the Internet

US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States plans to officially rename Artificial Intelligence (AI) as “Super Intelligence,” describing the technology as potentially more significant than the internet. Trump made the announcement during a high-level luncheon at the White House attended by several prominent technology executives, including Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang.

Trump said an executive document would be signed to formalise the change. He argued that the term “artificial” no longer accurately reflects the technology and said the administration would instead refer to it as “Super Intelligence,” or SI. Trump said the meeting reflected a common objective shared by the administration and technology leaders: ensuring that rapidly advancing technologies contribute to a safer and better future. He also stressed the importance of cooperation between technology companies and communities where large-scale data centres are being developed.

According to Trump, companies operating data centres should establish partnerships with local communities and contribute to areas such as schools and education. He said technology firms should provide financial and other forms of support to communities hosting the infrastructure required for advanced computing. Before the luncheon, Trump described the development of Super Intelligence in exceptionally ambitious terms, calling it potentially one of the biggest technological developments ever seen. He compared its expected impact with the internet and said the rapid expansion of the sector could provide significant opportunities for the US economy.

The President also addressed concerns surrounding the safety and potential misuse of increasingly sophisticated AI systems. Trump said the technology could be used for beneficial purposes while suggesting that authorities would take action when advanced models were misused. The White House meeting also focused on an agreement aimed at encouraging the responsible and secure development of advanced AI technologies. Zuckerberg said the framework was intended to increase public confidence in the technology and assure Americans that AI systems would operate according to their intended purposes.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei highlighted the importance of cooperation among government and technology companies. He said coordinated efforts would be necessary to advance the technology while maintaining appropriate safety measures. National security was another major theme of the discussions. Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton said maintaining US leadership in AI was closely connected to the countrys national security interests.

The discussions come as governments and technology companies around the world continue to debate how increasingly powerful AI systems should be developed, regulated and deployed. The White Houses proposed terminology change and its broader focus on advanced intelligence reflect the growing importance of the technology in economic, infrastructure and national security policy.
