Cyberabad Police have arrested three Nepali nationals in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly stealing gold and silver ornaments worth several crores from a villa in Hill Ridge Villas, Gachibowli, during a swift interstate operation. The accused have been identified as Kamal Shashi, his wife Vimal Shahi, and another woman named Kalpana. They are expected to be produced before a local court and later brought to Hyderabad on a transit warrant.
According to officials, the theft came to light on June 7 when an elderly couple returned home and found that a gold chain placed on a small idol had gone missing. A case was immediately registered and an investigation was launched. The situation escalated further on June 8 when the couple’s son discovered that nearly 1.5 kg of silver ornaments were missing from a locker.
Acting quickly, the Cyberabad Commissionerate deployed Special Operations Teams (SOT), crime units, and local police to trace the suspects. Six dedicated teams were sent to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Uttarakhand, while details and photographs of the accused were circulated among police units in those states. A special team tracking Nepali gangs also joined the operation. The breakthrough came on June 9, when Gachibowli Detective Inspector Naresh and his team, with support from local police, arrested the trio in Udhampur, Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh. The stolen valuables were recovered in full.
During questioning, the accused reportedly admitted that they used a key kept near the locker to gain entry, removed the jewellery, and then locked it again before taking the key with them to delay detection. Police have advised residents to remain vigilant and adopt stronger preventive security measures. They also urged people to conduct proper background verification of domestic workers and household staff before hiring.
