A large number of people visited the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Hyderabad to pay tribute to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and sign a condolence book, demonstrating solidarity with the Iranian people during their period of mourning. Mohsin Moghaddmi, Vice Consul of Iran, told the media on Thursday, “Today we have opened the Condolence Book for Indian nationals who wish to honor our beloved Khamenei and pay respects to the Iranian people.”
Earlier, the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi had announced that a condolence book would be opened this week to commemorate the “martyrdom” of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Imam Khamenei. In a post on X, the embassy stated, “On the occasion of the martyrdom of His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Imam Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, a condolence book will be opened at the Embassy of the I.R. Iran in New Delhi.” Those wishing to offer their respects could visit the embassy on March 5, 6, and 9 between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM to sign the book. The embassy expressed gratitude for the widespread expressions of sympathy and solidarity from the public.
The opening of the condolence book follows US and Israeli strikes on February 28, which targeted Iran’s leadership, military installations, and strategic assets. These attacks resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Khamenei along with several senior figures, prompting retaliatory strikes by Tehran against American and Israeli interests in the region. The initiative at the Hyderabad consulate allowed people to express condolences and show support for Iran during this challenging time.
