Telangana government has decided to rename a road in Hyderabad near the US Consulate General as Donald Trump Avenue. The announcement was made ahead of the Telangana Rising Global Summit scheduled for December 8-9, 2025. This move is part of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s efforts to boost Hyderabad’s global image by naming roads after international figures and technology giants. The government will soon notify the Ministry of External Affairs and the US Embassy to finalize the renaming process.
Alongside the Donald Trump Avenue, Telangana plans to name other roads after prominent personalities and major tech companies. A new greenfield radial road connecting the Nehru Outer Ring Road to the Regional Ring Road, named after Ratan Tata, is under construction with Tata already marked on the Raviryal interchange. Roads near tech campuses such as Google Street, Microsoft Road, and Wipro Lane are also planned to honor major corporate players contributing to Hyderabad’s development as a tech hub.
The announcement has drawn criticism from the BJP, with Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar questioning the practicality of the move. He urged the state government to focus on local heritage and pressing issues rather than symbolic gestures. He also suggested renaming Hyderabad back to its historic name, Bhagyanagar, to preserve cultural identity.
This renaming happens as Telangana prepares to host delegates from around 44 countries for the global summit, seeking to attract investment and showcase the states growing significance in the technology sector. The government hopes these symbolic gestures will reinforce Hyderabads stature as a major innovation and investment destination in India.
