Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, along with State IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu, held a video conference with Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to discuss hurdles in expanding the state’s fibre connectivity network and the urgent need for financial support from the Centre. During the interaction, the Chief Minister outlined Telangana’s long-term goal of ensuring reliable, high-speed internet access for every village and household across the state. He also highlighted earlier commitments made by the Union government toward strengthening Telangana’s digital infrastructure and supporting future-ready connectivity.
As part of the initiative, the state government plans to establish a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to oversee the development of an advanced fibre network throughout Telangana. Officials said the T-Fibre project aims to connect every Gram Panchayat through a ring-based network system. In the initial phase, restoration of digital connectivity will be taken up in 3,089 villages located in the former districts of Nizamabad, Ranga Reddy, and Khammam, where network infrastructure has reportedly suffered damage. According to an official statement, these villages will be upgraded under the Amended BharatNet Program using modern fibre technology capable of meeting future digital demands.
The Chief Minister also raised several important concerns with the Union Minister to ensure smooth implementation of the BharatNet expansion plan. Discussions focused on speeding up approval of the implementation agreement, clearing pending funds, and fast-tracking the execution of the T-Fibre project under the Amended BharatNet Program in Telangana. The meeting additionally reviewed policy-related matters, including the transfer of ring network assets from the mandal level to Gram Panchayats and the utilisation of the Digital Bharat Nidhi fund. Scindia reportedly assured the Telangana government of complete support from the Centre.
Officials said the state has already approved the creation of the SPV and signed an agreement with the Union government to strengthen the foundation for a digitally connected Telangana. The proposed network architecture is designed to maintain uninterrupted internet services even if one route experiences a disruption, as connectivity can continue through alternate pathways. Senior officials who participated in the virtual meeting included Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, Special Secretary to the Chief Minister B. Ajit Reddy, IT Department Joint Secretary D. Anudeep, and other government representatives.
