Preparations for the inaugural conference of We The Leaders, the political organisation founded by former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai, officially began on Thursday with a traditional Bhoomi Pooja at the event venue in Pollachi. The conference is set to be held on July 12 at 4 p.m. in Pollachi and will be led by Annamalai. Organisers have themed the event as the Drug-Free Pollachi Awareness Conference, highlighting the movements focus on addressing social issues alongside its political agenda.
The Bhoomi Pooja took place at the conference grounds on the Pollachi-Coimbatore Road, where hundreds of supporters and party workers gathered to mark the occasion. As part of the ceremony, the Muhurtha Kaal (ceremonial foundation post) was installed amid traditional rituals and the blowing of conch shells, symbolising the official start of preparations for the conference.
The event was overseen by Vasanth Rajan, the Coimbatore district in-charge of We The Leaders and a former BJP leader. According to organisers, the newly formed political outfit has been attracting growing support, with several young people and former BJP members from across Tamil Nadu joining the organisation ahead of its first public convention.
The conference comes just weeks after Annamalai formally parted ways with the Bharatiya Janata Party. On June 5, he announced his resignation, stating that differences with the party leadership over Tamil Nadus political strategy had prompted him to launch a new political platform. He also declared that the organisation intends to contest the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Soon after Annamalais exit, Tamil Nadu BJP Vice President Karu Nagarajan also resigned from the BJP and joined the new political movement, signalling early support from senior leaders. Annamalai had earlier said he informed the BJPs central leadership about his decision to resign several months in advance but continued to carry out his organisational responsibilities until the election process was completed, following the partys request. His resignation was later accepted by BJP National President Nitin Nabin. Annamalais departure marked a major political development in Tamil Nadu, drawing reactions from leaders across the political spectrum. The upcoming conference in Pollachi is expected to serve as the launchpad for the organisations political vision, policy priorities, and roadmap for the states future electoral battles.
