Fresh snowfall has commenced in Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla and the higher regions of Chamba, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Kangra, along with upper areas of Shimla and Kinnaur districts, while rainfall has been recorded in several other parts of the state. The weather has remained unsettled since late Thursday night and early Friday morning, as predicted by the Meteorological Centre in Shimla.
This fresh spell has brought significant relief after nearly four months of dry conditions. The snowfall has lifted the spirits of tourists and residents and renewed optimism among farmers and orchardists, who were concerned about possible crop damage due to the prolonged lack of rainfall. The dry spell had posed a serious threat to crops and apple production for the upcoming season. Tourism, which had slowed in recent weeks, is also witnessing a revival as visitors arrive to enjoy the snowfall. Shimla city has been blanketed in snow, while continuous snowfall is being reported from higher areas such as Narkanda, Kufri, Khada Pathar, and the upper regions of Chaupal, Rohru, and Jubbal.
Speaking to ANI, local hotelier Surender Chauhan said this was the first significant snowfall of the season after a long gap following heavy rain-related disasters. He expressed hope that the snowfall would benefit farmers and orchardists and lead to increased tourist arrivals, boosting hotels and other tourism-related businesses in the coming days.
Another resident, Ravi Sharma, also welcomed the change in weather, stating that the snowfall has brought happiness and benefits not only to locals but also to those associated with agriculture and tourism. He added that tourists have already started visiting Shimla and expressed optimism about improved business prospects ahead.
