The re-polling in the 123-Karimganj North Assembly constituency in Assam’s Sribhumi district is being conducted peacefully with adequate security arrangements, Sribhumi District Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Dwivedi said on Saturday. He stated that the voting process is taking place smoothly under the supervision of officials and police protection. “Everything is proceeding peacefully. The voting is secure and under control. We expect the process to conclude without any issues,” he added.
He also explained that the Election Commission of India (ECI) ordered fresh polling after disturbances were reported during voting on April 9. The repoll is being held at the 239-Babyland High English School polling station, which has 599 registered voters. While noting that the situation is under investigation, he said the original polling was disrupted, prompting the Commission to order a re-election. “There are 599 voters here. I cannot frequently enter the polling booth, but during my last visit, around 20 votes had already been cast,” he said.
The ECI announced a repoll in Karimganj North after reviewing Form 17A and other election-day records. The Commission said the scrutiny was conducted smoothly across all 296 Assembly constituencies in Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry, along with four constituencies in Karnataka, Nagaland, and Tripura where bypolls were held.
The process was overseen by 296 Returning Officers and 296 General Observers appointed by the Commission, with all 1,899 candidates informed in advance about the schedule and venue. The ECI also stated that the entire scrutiny was videographed, and after completion, Form 17A and related documents were resealed under the supervision of the respective Returning Officers.
