Rahul Gandhi Demands PM Modi Apologise to Students, Seeks Amit Shah's Resignation Over CJP Protest Crackdown

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday intensified his attack on the Centre over the police action during the recent CJP protests in Delhi, demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologise to students and calling for Union Home Minister Amit Shah to resign. The Congress leader made the remarks after he and several senior party leaders were detained while staging a protest near the Prime Minister’s residence. The demonstration was organised to condemn what the party described as police excesses against students and protesters during the CJP agitation. Rahul Gandhi and other detained leaders were later released.

Addressing reporters after his release, Gandhi accused the government of failing to protect the interests of young people and alleged that peaceful protesters were subjected to unnecessary force. He said the Prime Minister should publicly apologise to students and take responsibility for the governments handling of the protests. The Congress leader also demanded the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah, holding him politically accountable for the police response. In addition, Gandhi sought a discussion in Parliament on the education crisis and called for comprehensive reforms to restore public confidence in the countrys examination and recruitment systems.

The protests are linked to the youth-led CJP movement, which has been demanding accountability over alleged examination irregularities, paper leaks and recruitment issues. What began as a student movement has grown into a wider nationwide campaign, drawing support from opposition parties, civil society groups and thousands of young people. The Centre has rejected the Oppositions allegations. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan accused Rahul Gandhi of attempting to politicise student concerns and maintained that the government is committed to introducing reforms to strengthen the examination system and improve accountability.

The confrontation has further escalated the political battle over education reforms and the governments response to public protests. With Parliament in session and the issue dominating national debate, the Opposition is expected to continue pressing for accountability, while the government has defended its actions as necessary to maintain law and order and has promised measures aimed at preventing future examination-related controversies.
