Counter Intelligence Jalandhar has apprehended two prominent members of a Babbar Khalsa International module allegedly involved in a firing and extortion case. Police recovered a .32 bore pistol, a magazine, and eight live cartridges from the accused, identified as Sukhwinder Singh alias Sunny and Rawal, both residents of Kulam village in SBS Nagar. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said initial investigations indicate that the duo was operating under the directions of foreign-based BKI handlers Gopi Navanshaharia, Jassi Kulam, and Sushant Chopra. The accused allegedly fired two shots at a travel agent’s residence in the Garhshankar area as part of an extortion attempt.
Acting on specific intelligence, teams from the Central Intelligence Agency, Jalandhar, arrested the suspects along with weapons near the Lidran underbridge in Suransi on the Jalandhar-Amritsar highway. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the wider network and identify additional members, with more arrests and recoveries expected. An FIR has been registered at the State Special Operations Cell, Amritsar, under relevant sections of the IPC and the Arms Act.
Earlier, on January 23, Hoshiarpur Police, in coordination with Counter Intelligence Jalandhar, dismantled another BKI terror module and arrested four operatives from the Garhshankar area. The accused — Diljot Singh Saini, Harman alias Harry, Ajay alias Mehra, and Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh Kandola — were found in possession of a large cache of arms and explosives, including 2.5 kilograms of RDX in the form of an improvised explosive device, two pistols, and live cartridges. Preliminary findings suggested the IED was intended for a targeted attack around the January 26 celebrations.
According to Punjab Police, the module was allegedly directed by handlers based in the United States and had suspected links with Pakistan-backed networks. An FIR has been filed under relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosive Substances Act, and further investigations are underway to trace the broader network, funding sources, and local associates.
